Did Tyra turn her back on the plussie cause?

I’d have to say yes. There’s a great discussion of it over at Big Fat Deal. I have to say, though, that my sympathies are not so much with Tyra and weren’t even when she was supposedly on “my” side. The few episodes I’ve watched of her have revealed her to be a raging, uninformed egomaniac a la Ricki Lake – and any assumption of a cause at all would only be in direct relation to benefitting herself. I had my guess she was going to bail, and indeed, it happened.

I never viewed Trya as being on the side of plus size women. Yes she was for larger models, but the sneaky way they are saying that a plus size model is a size 12 always had me questioning her motives.

I have been pretty critical of Tyra so this really didn’t suprise me at all that she did what she did.

What she did!? She didn’t do anything. SHE LOST WEIGHT. What is the big deal? None of us know her reasons for shedding the poundage. Maybe her health was starting suffer; maybe she just changed her eating/excercise habits and the weight was gone as a result. Maybe she was just plain uncomfortable. She looks great, still curvy. Besides, why should any of us care how much a celebrity weighs or doesn’t weigh? Personally I have greater thigs to occupy my mind than that.

I have no issue whatsoever with Tyra Banks losing weight, or living whatever she felt is healthy. My point is that she has mad a big, HUGE fuss about sizism and ending sizism – but I strongly suspect that now that she considers herself acceptable, all this work and noise from her will stop completely because it no longer serves her own ends.

I never have liked Tyra Banks, nor am I overly concerned about celebrity weight. However, she has stirred up a lot of women who do have these issues, and I think that her sentiments and public behavior lack integrity – if she’s going to go on about sizism, she needs to own what she does with her own body.
