Plus Friendly Trends for Fall
The big three fashion mags have arrived, Vogue, W, and MarieClaire. After looking them over and comparing to what’s in their June/July issues, here’s what I’ve delved from between the lines that can work into a plussie wardrobe:
Think eighties, with better hair and much more understated makeup. Also, we all know now that credit cards are bad news.
- Tights are in, especially dark-colored, ribbed tights.
- The new accessory of choice is the thigh-length blazer. Fortunately, this is already a staple in most work wardrobes.
- For hourglass figured plussies, exaggeratedly wide belts are great accessories. It really shows off the tasty curves.
- Take your pennyloafer and add a heel to it. Some designs look great, some just look like ugly shoes with heels.
- Opera-style gloves are the new, fun accessory of the coming season.
Here’s what will tempt plussies, and regardless of your body shape, I recommend avoidance:
- The trapeze dress
This dress is singularly unflattering to large women, and while it hides your figure – which is psychologically popular with plus women – it makes large women of ALL shapes look larger than they actually are. Own your shape, and wear something that traces your curves.
