It MUST be contested. A Halifax bar in Nova Scotia actually kicked out one of their regulars for being overweight. They have no more business throwing someone out of a bar over their weight than they do over that person’s race, religion, or sexual preference. While obesity may or may not be a personal choice, it’s a PRIVATE issue, and it’s enough trouble that we who are plus must wear that issue for all the world to see.
The Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission is being unacceptably inactive in this case as well. The woman in question was told that she was only protected by the Human Rights act if her obesity was due to disability.
I couldn’t find the name of the bar in this article – if anyone can find it, let me know. Names must be named and letters must be written. I am sending an email to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, and I will do the same for the bar the first chance I get. I encourage readers to do the same.
