It’s an unavoidable evil of blogging these days, since blogs are the new marketing frontier, both from the publishing and the commenting end, these comments from marketing agents posing as “readers.” But it’s already getting tiresome.
I own my own business. I have to market this blog, and my fragrances. I get that marketing is necessary. So, in an effort not to have to mark every marketer who posts here as a spammer, here’s a few tips for you all that you will also definitely find on pro-blogging and pro-marketing websites:
1. Keep your comments relevant to the post. I just had to delete a comment from a marketing agent directing me to try a business completely unrelated to the one I was posting about. This was just in poor taste, because it was an attempt to draw attention away from a small business. This relates to my second comment, which is:
2. Research the blog before you post to it if you have a specific company’s agenda in mind. The non-relevant business in the comment I just deleted has actually been mentioned several times in this blog. I even have a search window on the front page to make finding out this information easy and fast.
3. Check the about sections – I don’t post about sales because I do NOT advocate blind consumerism and plus size customers are already overcharged for their very existence; however, if you’ve got something really unique that will answer to a plussie fashion problem, I will gladly be all over it.
4. Remember that I know who you are. I do log IPs, and I do check on names and accounts if they seem fishy. I do this STRICTLY to weed out marketers posing as the ordinary consumer. If the marketeer behaves well, the marketer will be rewarded by having his/her comments published along with everyone else’s. Good behavior is rewarded by allowing your voice to be heard.
5. And last of all, if you really want your company’s voice to be heard on this blog, and you can’t agree to these terms within the content, buy some advertising if there’s space open. It won’t protect you from criticism if you turn out something *really* bad, but it will make sure you have a raised profile to my readers.
