What Does this Mean?

Discovered on Fashion Indie and confirmed by Target Corporation, Target is indeed premiering a model-less fashion show. Rather than having real people displaying the latest in affordable chic, holograms will traverse the walkways.

Now, I’ve heard claims that models and actors will someday be replaced by technology, but I just don’t see it happening on a permanent basis. Those video game based movies from around 2000 kinda flopped - indeed, there are some nuances actors give that no computer programmer can design.

But what about models? There’s already the disturbing idea among fashion designers that the women wearing their clothes should be as thin and shapeless as possible so they may be “hangers” for the clothing (why aren’t designers who say shit like that charged with human rights violations??) And especially among the plus size community, we point to these emaciated models and complain that we need to see the clothing on “real” women.

In a way, it’s the ultimate joke. Fashion is all about getting us to buy an illusion. Not only does the Emperor have no clothes, he’s found a whole way to show off not having them!
