How’s This for Conflicting Messages?
So, after a slew of “if you’re fat you’re gonna diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeee!” health bulletins last week, I give you one released yesterday. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions, but I will quote this directly from the article in question:
It turns out that a little extra weight may not shorten your life but may make it harder to perform everyday activities as you get older.
Isn’t that what I’ve been saying, perhaps in different words (the life span of an anorexic is much much shorter than that of a clinically obese person?)?
Notably, this study only really looks at BMI, and does not really identify long-term habits of the overweight elderly studied. I’m willing to gander that even if overweight, those who engaged in regular exercise more at a younger age are more mobile when they’re older, but no one’s done a study to corroborate that – it’s that irritating tendency to assume fat = no exercise.
Still, it’s a step. A small one, but a step – assuming of course, that all the data is valid.

That said, I’m going to spend a little extra time on yoga and lifting weights after reading that…
