The Journal of the American Medical Association just stepped up with this bit: Fitness, not Fatness, determines lifespan. This is something I’ve been saying repeatedly – eat right, exercise, hope for the best in terms of size – but it’s really better if you can make it up and down a flight of stairs without getting winded (sadly, I’m at that winded stage – I’ve had a persistent bug for 8 weeks, and it has completely screwed my workouts – never fear, I’m starting again, inspired by this good news and a reduction of symptoms to a persistent sore throat the source of which no culture can identify).

My favorite quote from the article:
“Older individuals need to be concerned about their fitness level,” Blair added. “There is perhaps too much focus on body weight, and fitness is only an afterthought.”
Wow, it’s like they up and read my blog.
That said, it’s worth exploring fitness avenues. I personally love FitTV – because I work from home, and no gym is more convenient than the living room. Some people love the gym. And I’m going back to bellydance classes in January. My parents are Tai Chi enthusiasts. I’ve had great luck with water aerobics. My sister likes yoga and wrestling. I’m still reworking the courage to take Jujitsu again. What matters is that you MOVE, baby. Doesn’t matter how, just matters that you do.
