Reading Books Might Aid Obesity! They Fight Crime!

OK, not really, but the one time a major publication has the power to misuse the “OMG Obesity!” tactic for good, it skips right over the opportunity.  The New York Times has a readable article about how reading books – the paper, offline kind – seems to collect a group of individuals who are more likely to eat right, exercise, and stay out of jail.

I’m an avid reader – or I was, pre-Internet, pre-this decade, and I’m trying to rekindle the love. It does relax me, and when relaxed, I make better decisions all-around. So maybe there’s something to it. But oh, how times have changed!

Once upon a time I loved to read too. I think all that forced reading in high school and college dampened the love. It is something I’m attempting to rekindle also.

Yes, few things can kill a passion for learning like a teacher with a passion for telling you what to think. I’m only now beginning to take up Shakespeare and appreciate him again, and I’ve only now realized that some of the “classics” were just bad writing, and it’s OK to say so!
