There’s a person over on AskMetafilter who has chosen the weight loss path, but on the road she’s still getting some heckling. She’s asking for some help coming up with quick comebacks. If you’re sassy, you might be able to give her some help.

My first thought about this when I read her scenario was why was she getting into these verbal spares anyway? It sounded like it happened on a regular basis. I don’t know if I have had this happen to me but maybe twice in my life and I have always been on the plus side of life.

Regardless, I would point out to the person how inappropriate their comment was (and be sure to use the word “inappropriate” it makes people uncomfortable) and apologize that they feel so bad about themselves that they have to pathetically try and put me down. Nice try but I know I’m fabulous.

Uh, as a regular MeFite, I have to say something for a fellow member… as you might have noticed from HIS username, WCityMike is a GUY. :)

Kat gave me the heads-up about your post here. Despite my masculinity I’m grateful for the shout-out. To answer your question, Anna, I actually don’t get into these verbal encounters regularly, and most of the time, I walk on. But occasionally, you want to have the comeback loaded and ready. I ran into one of those situations recently and found that I didn’t have anything handy to sling back at him. I thought Ask Mefi (well, and I suppose here as well) might be able to assist. :-) Thanks again for the shout-out!
