A mailing from Newport News touting its latest rounds of ShapeFX apparel caught my attention, because the only shapewear I read gossip about these days is the (IMO) overrated Spanx .
What I found is no replacement for the aforesaid favored fashion solution, but is an interesting adventure in apparel nonetheless. All sorts of nip and tuck built-in clothing, an extension of swimsuit engineering intended also to tuck all the wobbly bits in, but now built into high waisted pants and thin-strapped bra tops.
Oddly, most of the clothing in NewPort News was intended for those of “regular” size or smaller. Another conspiracy against the self-esteem of average size women, or is it just more affordable to make clothing – even clothing that really should serve larger people – for smaller sizes?
