Sheer Pleasure

I’ve always loved a good sheer piece in my wardrobe, even though they’re almost never office appropriate. Still, I wear them – they’re a great variation on the “floaty” styles, and are much more figure flattering on me than some of the billowing caftan-based alternatives. A sheer piece can look casual and classy if worn well, or kind of sleazy.

Here are the rules that I apply when wearing sheers; your mileage may vary:

  • Go light on accessories. The sheer fabric is enough of a visual element.
  • Even if you’re not worried about your modesty, it’s a kindness to preserve the modesty of others. Keep camisoles underneath, or at least dark colored bras.
  • Ideally, the camisole should match the color of the sheer fabric – if that can’t happen, a black cami is usually a safe bet.
  • Here’s a slide show of my favorites from what our plus stores have, found on the Fat Chic search engine. Enjoy!
