ZOMG Shoes – Midnight Velvet

Normally I’m not a trend chaser when it comes to footwear, because I purchase most of my outfits to suit the shoes I own. It may sound a little weird on the surface, but think about it – it’s way less expensive in the long run because you don’t have to find shoes to go with the outfit, and nothing winds up sitting in your closet for an age because of unsuitable footwear.

Still, every now and again even I like a short-lived shoe. While the pricing at Midnight Velvet is definitely not in the short-lived range, these shoes aren’t what I’d call enduring style, but they are incredibly fun, especially if anyone is throwing in for Old Navy’s Mexicali look.

Shiny summer slides I like these because the mix of metallic and color (or noncolor, in case of the black slides) actually reduces the sometimes overpowering impact of an all-metallic shoe. Yes, it’s a pedicure-required look, but clearly, these are for occasions where a good pedicure can only enhance the fun.

When I was 18, my favorite pair of shoes were some dark blue espadrilles, stacked on some sort of hemp. I’ve outgrown that look, sadly, and sometimes I mourn for it. However, this new take with the wooden platform slightly closer to the ground with handscarves in place of the normal ties gives me hope. I think this is pretty original, and it tempts me to give them a try even though for me, I’d probably have to thrift them in the space of a year.
