Vested Interest
There isn’t a lot I want from fall fashion this season – fashion hasn’t changed much, and frankly, money’s enough of an issue I’m actually eyeing my sewing machine and trying to convince myself that previous sewing disasters never really happened. Besides, in theory if not in practice I can sew a straight line.
But, along with my persistent longing for a corset belt, I do want to add a vest or two to my wardrobe. Notably, in searching for vests, I discovered that the UK defines vest as just about any sleeveless shirt intended for outerwear. In the US it’s a bit different in that it usually refers to a)a men’s garment that is typically part of a 3-piece suit or b)a sweater/fleece type thing placed over top of other layers of clothing. We’ll all know what everyone else means when we see them in person.
This is probably my favorite of the vests, just because it’s just above the waist and again, I like buttons this season.

All of these I would consider if I really wanted to go aggressively menswear-look, but I’m generally a one men’s-like piece at a time gal.
This is actually a combination of crochet and suede. It freaks me out a little.
And, for the budget conscious and crafty, there’s always old school patterns – I’m thinking pattern extensions on a vest would be relatively simple.
Me? I’m probably going to comb a thrift store or two on this one – there’s got to be something in a menswear goodwill that will work on me!

I love vests! I especially love matching them to fedoras.
