A New Take on Plus Size Models?
I noticed that MXM has introduced these characters as a way of introducing their clothing lines: “Work” “Chill” and “Club.” While I’m kind of amused at the replacement of “Casual” with “Chill” I’m more curious about opting for creating acharacter – or possibly, drawing over an actual model with a character – that they have opted for.
I think most plus size fashionistas want to see more actual plus-sized models. This here looks to me like a cartoonish compromise, but does it work? It does look to me as though a real person was drawn over. It’s probably in part for an aesthetic/branding reason, but it’s also quite possibly because on a deeper level, even plus clothiers haven’t reached a comfort level with their models being plus sized.
