New Economic Approaches by Plus Size Clothiers

  • * In an email from new president Jay LevittĀ  released on February 26, Fashion Bug announced universal price cuts. All clothing prices are reduced whether on sale or not. Fashion Bug is the one product of CharmingShoppes I usually like, but I know they’ve been struggling. They recently shut down several branches, including two in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area, and seem to have gone exclusively suburban in their locations. I attribute this partially to an unfortunate influx of what I term “old-lady prints” that caused myself and likely a few other shoppers to strike them from my local shopping list and head to Dots instead. The new president is offering anĀ  open door policy, including releasing his email address for customer feedback, a relatively new move for one of the large-scale plus size operations out there. (Torrid has a reputation for being the most customer-interactive of the major plus retailers.)
  • *Mechanical Bunny, a very small goth clothier with a small range of plus items, is now offering layaway.
  • *If it seems like a lot of plus clothing operations are having way more sales than they normally do this time of year, you’re absolutely right. While it’s never advisable to spend just because something’s on sale, it’s a good time to put out cash for purchases you’ve intended to make all along.
