I’m a big fan of buying quality clothing every 2-3 years and stretching it for as long as I can. Given how much clothing costs and how we all have to tighten, it’s a good time to look at what you have to do to make that clothing last.
Don’t put bras through the drier. EVER.
In fact, if you can skip using the dryer, do. If you live in an apartment like I do, you can get a dryer rack or drying line.
Wash your whites right away if you can, but go easy on your darker clothing – unless it really needs a wash, try to keep it to a minimum.
You can get more life out of your shoes by adding sole protectors and, if they’re leather, adding a clear polish at least once a year. I have a pair of Eccos that has lasted me eight years thanks to my yearly polishing ritual.
Zip all zippers before you do your laundry, thus snag proofing and protecting all your clothing.
