Off the shoulder in plus sizes

one shoulder lane bryantI’ve always been a bit put off by asymmetrics. Remember the appearance of the short in back/long in front dress in the early 90s? Yeah, those confused me. So do off the shoulder looks – on everyone. On plus sizes, there are some extra disadvantages if you’ve got some chub hanging off your armpit, etc. If you have arms a la Serena Williams (or are a really strong bellydancer) I can see really rocking this look. However, if you’re not a strong-arm woman, probably not.

Just in case you like the look but can’t wear it, Torrid does have this intriguing variation.

  1. I agree, you do have to watch the arm chub when trying to rock off the shoulder looks. the ones that really confuse me are the off the shoulder looks with one no sleeve and one long sleeve. What season do you wear that in? Winter is too cold, Summer is too hot, autumn…still a bit too cold, right? spring, too hot I guess… I don’t know. that is the look that confuses me.

  2. Porcelina

Also you have the problem that most plus size women have large breasts, and strapless bras do NOT work for me.

  3. Asymmetrics do pose a few disadvantages to plus size women who are conscious about their jiggly arms and do not own a good strapless bra… however if you are confident enough to try these styles anyway, I think they can be pretty flattering!
