Sartorial Moment: Meet Chelsea and her fabulous scarf

It takes a certain kind of woman to pull off the whole scarf look the way Chelsea here does it. Really, it’s a combination of skill in assembling a look and ultimately having the right personality to wear such a thing without looking utterly pretentious. Me? I steer away from it. But last night I just had to ask Chelsea if I could snap her picture because on her, all the things I advise against totally work. I also adored both her shoes and her foot tattoo.

Chelsea is an art student from UW-River Falls who had a work entered in the Foot in the Door arts exhibition. I was there because I love art, especially the sort where you create it from joy and not from some sort of conceptual something or other where you’re supposed to lean forward and back and squint a lot while muttering about “texture” and “negative space.” Along with creating three dimensional art, or perhaps as an extension of the form, she also designs her own jewelry. I’m not sure, but some of it looked like it had teeth. It was actually really cool.

I love arts events in the Twin Cities probably more than the fashion events. The outfit watching is phenomenal. I only wish more of my snapshots from last night came out, but when you’re trying to do stealth photography in a dark room, it’s all about whether the exposure fairy likes you, or just wants to expose itself.

So Chelsea, if you’re reading this – you look fab!
