Dozens of other plus size blogs are covering this, and it merits coverage here, too: Elena Miro’s show was ousted from Milan’s Ready to Wear Fashion Week. Why? According to Mirio Boselli: “Some labels just weren’t in line with what ready-to-wear week should be. We wanted to champion the values of creativity to reaffirm Milan’s role in the world.”
Now that really sounds like a non-answer to me. Anything I say here is pure speculation. I have no inside track to this situation. My wild guesses as to what the heck happened here?
1. It’s personal, and therefore none of our business. Maybe an assistant spilled coffee on somebody else’s favorite assistant.
2. Suddenly Italy has forgotten the tolerance of plus size women and fashion it celebrated just last year.
3. It’s a rather deft publicity maneuver, especially given how much more press goes to New York and London Fashion Week. While overtly it hurts Miro, this whole thing has given both her and Milan Fashion Week quite a boost. I know I’m really going to look at the ready to wear images to see if there’s any merit whatsoever to Boselli’s insistence her work is “not in line.”
Miro went ahead and hosted her own show, and more power to her for that.
