From the flying trapeze…

So, the words “parachute” and “trapeze” are working their ways back into ready-to-wear fashion. I am dubious about this. On the one hand, I have fond memories of a trapeze dress I wore in high school that offended the living hell out nearly everyone who saw it. It was short – scandalously! – and honestly, I pretty much knew it didn’t matter what I wore, someone had a problem with it so I just decided to play a game of control by choosing an outfit that would evoke whatever response day by day. On the other hand, what’s coming out – I’m kind of “eh” about. Could work – might not. Here’s some examples of what’s available in plus size right now:

Trapeze

Parachute

I have to admit I don’t really get the parachute pants or how they’re different from other utility pants. Closer fit? More pockets? A ripcord? In a gardening context, I can see wearing them. However, it’s unlikely I’d wear a pair to drink coffee with a friend, which is my benchmark for casual occasions.
