Diana in Igigi. For real.

Today is all about the Igigi Leigh Lace Dress.
Igigi Leigh Black Lace Dress 2012

As readers of this blog know, there are two factors that heavily influence my experience with this dress: I’ve been trying to find decent lacey plus size things for the last year and a half and … I’ve been drooling over Igigi dresses since I started this blog.

Igigi may actually in its way be why I started this blog – I saw their goods back in 2006, and I knew there was hope for the plus-sizes yet.

So when I was contacted about reviewing a dress and showing off a picture or few (OK, 10, since that’s what my slide shows allow) after doing a Snoopy dance at my computer I immediately said yes.

The dress, alone, is stunning. High quality workmanship, an easy fit, and there was virtually no need to strap, scrap, or in any way bind myself. I took it for its debut mission to see Roman Holiday at the Guthrie Theater – the dress is worthy of a little Audrey homage – and since we were at one of the more interesting interiors of Minneapolis, my partner and I decided to have a little fun with it. So along with the accoutrements thrown in by Igigi, a bolero jacket (also beautifully made) and a sash, I added a few things from my own humor-based sense of style. I did work in a few shots of how I believe the designer originally intended it – and then I also did how I would wear it.

Sometimes I go and hug my Igigi. Oh yes, yes I do.

Materials for this post were provided free of charge by the producing company.

That dress is very pretty. Thank you for showing what it looks like on a non-Igigi model in regular indoor and outdoor lighting! I always get a better idea of how something looks when a regular person wears it (please don’t take that as an insult, because it isn’t). It often helps me make a decision especially when it’s a big ticket item. Alas, I wish Igigi offered petite sizes as I’m really short (5’0″) and the dress would be ruined by altering it.

Do you like to wear earrings? I think this dress would look great with some large earrings and a big cuff bracelet. But I’m sort of a gypsy when it comes to jewelry so that’s just my opinion!

The dress is gorgeous – wearing it has been crazy fun. I’m puzzled as to why you think I’d be offended to be classed as a “normal person.” :) That’s what us fat positive bloggers are going for.

As to the style suggestions, that actually brings up a point about style, empathy and individualism I’m sort of plotting a post on anyway. I actually don’t have pierced ears. I’m not going to get them. I’m just not into poking needles into my body for decorative reasons.

What you suggest sounds really, really cute – and is based on your own style. I’d love to see a plus-size gypsy look, it just wouldn’t be suitable on me. It would probably look good on me, but it likely would not look right on me. I love a little romantic bohemian, but that’s not where I want to go with the dress – for my own communication, I’m more about either the gloves or the faux leather jacket. There’s a second very non-shallow level of communication in style that comes with fashion choices, and part of what makes it complicated is that a good stylist can NOT pick what s/he personally likes, but rather what works on the person before you.

Just as you would never want to alter that dress, altering the message sent by the person in the dress is also part of making not an outfit but a total look and total style. I usually want to look strong, rather than cute. Other women prefer to look cute. This is an equally legitimate choice – and one often made consciously or subconsciously through choice of accessories.

Love the dress, looks gorgeous on you but you have to re-crop the intro photo so you are not a headless fatty. ;) I have a review for Igigi to get on too but it has been so hot and humid I haven’t wanted to put it on.

It’s something weird with the blog template that does that. I’m going to fish and see if there’s any way I can get more control over that.
