Thank you for your interest in advertising on Fat Chic! Because we place an emphasis on relevance and readers’ needs, we have a specific system for blog advertising. Fat Chic will not accept text advertising or advertising that forces a change in the blog layout.
Since some folks may be confused by this, let me explain: making money is a byproduct, but not primary purpose, of Fat Chic. The posts that feature clothing from various retailers are 95% of the time not requested. I blog intuitively, rather than traditionally, and so for the most part I can’t supply you with statistics or demographics beyond what users volunteer about themselves in the occasional poll. Back in the early days some clearly labeled Sponsor posts happened. That’s not really how it works anymore, and reviews are given of pieces sent in with appropriate FTC disclosures.
To advertise directly on Fat Chic, the following options are available:
Option 1: Project Wonderful
Project Wonderful is a bid-for-space venue that starts at twenty cents per day (US) per ad box. You will need to sign up for membership at Project Wonderful, and then you can go bid on space through the Fat Chic Project Wonderful profile. You can change your advertisement at any time within the constraints of this service. This is wonderful for small businesses with limited budgets, and gives you the freedom to change your ad as you see fit. This is a great fit for micro-businesses and start-ups, or people who want more control over when and how long they run an advertisement.
Option 2: Purchase a static badge
We do offer a 160 x 100 pixel box in .jpg or .gif that stays for an agreed-upon length of time. Cost of a box is $30/month; no pro-rating. If you need help creating a box, please let me know.
How it works:
You contact me via the contact page and say “Hi! I’d like to advertise! I’d like to run a 160 x 100 badge on your page for x long!”
After agreeing to the length of time and reviewing the ad, you will be sent an invoice via PayPal. It’s not always possible to post the ad within 24 hours, so length of advertising runs from the day it is posted to the end of the contract.
Option 3: the Fat Chic Sales Roundup Newsletter
Fat Chic now has a newsletter! Twice a month, an editorial letter plus listing of affiliate sales go out. You can pay for placement in this, organize an affiliate agreement, or run giveaways. Just contact me via the contact link and we can work something out. Placement of ad copy or a banner in the newsletter is $10.
The following are my advertising policies. Some of this involves beating a dead horse, but sometimes those critters need to be smacked.
Universal Advertising Policies
- I do not allow diet, dating or prurient interest advertising on the site. Google, however, does, and I’m working on fixing that.
- Stores advertised must somehow be plus-size related, preference is given to clothing stores
- Clothing stores must sell plus sized clothing that is actually plus sized – sizes that are 16 and up, with measurements that properly correlate in that range
- No, I will not sell you a text link. I will not sell you a text link ad. I will not sell you a post. But you can buy a visual ad badge, or approach me about placing something in the newsletter.
- Affiliate programs need to fit within a newsletter format.
- Advertisers may not under any circumstances dictate blog content.
- Ad images may only be changed once a month. I do not do ads for short-term sales; I know this is common but there’s some specific editorial intent in my blog that goes against sales chasing.
- I do accept trade of goods for ad space, but an invoice is still needed in that case for tax purposes.
These policies are non-negotiable because of specific intent with long-term content.
- No, I will not sell you a text link. I will not sell you a text link ad. I will not sell you a post. But you can buy a visual ad badge, or approach me about placing something in the newsletter.
